US vetoes UN Security Council resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire

Supported by the majority of Council members, the resolution calls for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent" ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the "immediate and unconditional release" of all hostages held by Hamas. It also calls for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and its safe and unimpeded distribution on a large scale.
